Overcoming Cravings
Changing your daily diet routine or habits can be very tough. Some changes require eating less or changing your eating throughout the day. Most people going through diet changes find themselves hungry from time to time, especially in the beginning. This can cause, anxiety, anger, frustration, depression, and not wanting to continue on with their plan.
Sometimes cravings can be your brain wanting to escape a stressful or emotional situation and give you comfort. If you notice you crave things when you’re stressed or in a heightened state of emotion - make sure you are addressing the root cause! Next time you’re feeling cravy - and you know it’s not true hunger - employ the steps below.
Get out of the house. Go on a walk, run some errands, visit a friend. Something to take you physically away from the temptation of snacking.
Start a project. Look up some easy DIYs to keep your hands busy. Or maybe your thing is knitting or drawing. Keeping the hands busy will keep your brain busy as well.
Pinterest! You can get lost on Pinterest for hours! From home décor and DIY to fashion to humor to healthy recipes, there are so many fun things to look at on Pinterest!
Do some deep cleaning or organizing. I’m sure you know how it is, sometimes all you have to go is start organizing the closest, extra bedroom, basement, or pantry and all of a sudden you’re an organizing machine! Making labels, throwing out things you don’t need, or finding long lost items. You just have to make the step to start!
Have some tea! Making some tea is sometimes enough to make you forget that you’re hungry. Plus the act of heating up the water, steeping the tea, and waiting for it to cool enough to drink is usually long enough to make you either ‘forget’ you’re hungry or pass enough time for it to be time to eat.
Read. Start a good book! Or even flipping through a magazine or catalog will get your mind off food.
Start that binge-worthy show everyone’s been talking about! Unfortunately it can be very easy to lose hours to a show that keeps you glued to the screen. But one episode might just be enough to pass enough time for you not to be thinking about food. If you don’t want to start a whole new series, try a documentary or stand up comedy routine, Netflix and Hulu are goldmines for either!
YouTube videos. Similar to getting lost in a series, you can get lost on a YouTube channel for hours. Find a vlogger you like and go through their most popular videos, it’ll be time to eat before you know it!
Workout! You’re killing two birds with one stone here. You’re distracting yourself from wanting to eat something you maybe shouldn’t be eating, AND you’re building muscle which will help your body burn fat faster!
Start meal prepping. Sometimes making your prepped meal ends up taking longer than you realize so by the time you’re done it’s time to eat. Or you can make for future meals and portion everything out for ease and convenience for the days after!
